Mount Ayr is the seat of Ringgold County, the farthest of the Southern Tier counties from Des Moines. Mount Ayr and the surrounding area are very popular spots for hunters and outdoorsmen. There's fishing, boating, hunting, cross country skiing, running trails and many other activities. Mount Ayr, Iowa, is located 93 miles southwest of Des Moines, 130 miles southeast of Omaha, 50 miles south of Winterset, 23 miles west of Lamoni and 150 miles north of Kansas City. We are located at the Junction of Hwy 2 & 169.
